Well, I guess that's a question that only doctors can answer and yes, it has been proven that our bodies react to what we eat.
It is often said ''we are what we eat'' and while it is very important to eat a healthy diet, it might be closer to the truth to say ''we are what we absorb''.
I personally believe it's all about taking small steps to slowly improve your general health.
Here is a check-list that I started when I made the decision of wanting to eat healthy;
Even if you have set out a healthy vitamin-filled shopping list or eating plan to last you a week, it's proven that your temptation is at a higher risk for foods that you don't want to buy. Even have a sandwich or something small before you visit the supermarket. (this wont only save your health, but also your wallet)
2. Be realistic, your going to devour some type of sugary mess.
Its important to be realistic. You cant eat carrots five times a day for two weeks, unless you are pop-eye(but with spinach). We are humans and we do need a load of vitamins/minerals per day. Don't hit yourself or get angry if you have a chocolate bar, its all about motivation. Your allowed to have limits, just healthy ones.
3. Lemon Detox aint gonna work, hunny.
Sure, if your wanting to loose 5kg in a week and become faint and loose concentration, this might be good for you. But if you are wanting to change your healthy habits completely, i wouldn't recommend this to be one of the "fads" that stick. Im all about hot lemon with hot water every morning, as this cleans the liver and slowly starts up your metabolism.
4. Live life 90/10. (for the mental state)10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%. How? By your reaction.

Its a principle discovered by Stephen Covey. If you have some time up your sleeve, I'd recommend a read. It's well worth your time.
